Shot Scope’s LM1 delivers a sell-out launch

Portfolio company update
24 July 2026

Shot Scope has reported strong demand for its new LM1 Launch Monitor, with the first production run selling out following its launch in March 2026.

The portable device gives golfers immediate information on clubhead speed, ball speed, smash factor, carry distance and total distance. Priced at £199.99 in the UK, it has been designed to make launch monitor technology more accessible to everyday golfers.

The LM1 has contributed to Shot Scope’s recent strong revenue growth and introduced the Edinburgh-based golf technology company to a wider group of customers.

Shot Scope LM1

Making golf performance data more accessible

The LM1 combines a simple set-up, immediate performance information and an accessible price point. Its successful launch demonstrates Shot Scope’s ability to identify what golfers need and develop technology that can be used by a broad international customer base.

Making performance data more accessible

Launch monitors measure what happens when a golf club strikes the ball. Advanced systems are widely used by professional golfers, coaches and specialist club fitters, but can cost several thousand pounds and provide more information than many golfers need.

Shot Scope identified an opportunity to create a simpler and more affordable product. Following six weeks of market research, the company found that golfers were interested in using launch monitor data but often considered existing products expensive, complicated to set up and difficult to understand.

The LM1 was developed in response to this research. It can be set up in less than 30 seconds and provides five measurements that golfers can use to understand their distances, ball striking and swing speed.

Strong early demand

The first production run sold out

Sales accelerated following the publication of independent reviews, contributing to Shot Scope’s recent revenue growth and increasing international awareness of the brand.

The response provides early commercial validation for a product developed around clear customer feedback and a straightforward proposition.

Developing the LM1

The LM1 uses Doppler radar to measure total distance, carry distance, clubhead speed, ball speed and smash factor. The results are shown immediately on a 3.5-inch colour screen.

The device can be used indoors or outdoors, at a driving range, in a practice net or on the course. It weighs 300 grams, has approximately five hours of battery life and is small enough to remain in a golf bag. Practice sessions can also be transferred to the Shot Scope app and reviewed over time.

Practice

Immediate feedback

Golfers can measure their distances, assess the efficiency of their ball striking and monitor changes in swing speed.

Portability

Designed for the golf bag

The LM1 is compact, quick to set up and suitable for use on the course as well as at indoor and outdoor practice facilities.

Accessibility

No subscription fee

The product is priced at £199.99 in the UK, with access to its principal features and session history included.

Developing the product required a significant research and development programme. Shot Scope’s engineers initially achieved consistent readings at clubhead speeds below 100 miles per hour, but further work was needed to capture shots produced by faster swings.

The company spent a further nine months developing the technology so that it could be used by both everyday golfers and faster, elite players.

Product development

```
Built around how golfers actually practise
Shot Scope began the development process by speaking directly to golfers. The resulting product concentrates on the measurements customers are most likely to use, while removing unnecessary complexity from the set-up and user experience.
```

Connecting practice and on-course performance

Shot Scope has historically focused on technology used during a round, including GPS watches, rangefinders and automatic shot-tracking products. The LM1 extends the company’s technology into practice and training.

Golfers can compare information collected during practice sessions with their performance on the course. This can help them understand the difference between how they perform at the driving range and during a round.

During practice

✓ Measure carry and total distance

✓ Monitor clubhead and ball speed

✓ Review ball-striking efficiency

Across the platform

✓ Compare practice and on-course data

✓ Review sessions through the Shot Scope app

✓ Build a more complete view of performance

The product can also be used alongside coaching, speed training and club fitting. By combining on-course and off-course information within the Shot Scope app, the company is building a more complete picture of each golfer’s performance.

The next stage of growth

Guinness Ventures first invested in Shot Scope in 2021, backing an experienced management team with a strong record of product development and an ambition to build an international golf technology business.

Since then, Shot Scope has expanded its product range, strengthened its international retail network and continued to invest in its engineering, software and performance-data platform.

01

A new adjacent market

The LM1 extends Shot Scope’s product range from on-course technology into practice and training.

02

A wider customer base

Its accessible price and straightforward design introduce Shot Scope to golfers who may not previously have used a launch monitor.

03

International potential

The launch builds on Shot Scope’s expanding global retail network and growing international awareness of the brand.

The LM1 is an important milestone in that development. It has increased awareness of the Shot Scope brand and is already contributing to strong revenue growth.

The sell-out first production run also reflects the company’s approach: listening carefully to golfers, concentrating on the features they will use and making effective technology more widely accessible.

Our investment perspective

The early success of the LM1 reflects the qualities that originally attracted Guinness Ventures to Shot Scope.

The company combines technical expertise, customer understanding and international commercial reach. These capabilities enable it to identify new opportunities and bring relevant products to market for golfers around the world.

Congratulations to the Shot Scope team

We congratulate David Hunter and the entire Shot Scope team on an exceptional launch. The LM1 is a significant achievement for the business and an exciting indication of what may come next.
