Our Knowledge Intensive EIS Service is focused on investing into UK high-growth, knowledge intensive companies. We look to build diversified portfolios for our investors and do this by investing across a range of sectors including technology, education, healthcare, manufacturing, retailing, leisure and food & drink.

Knowledge Intensive

The EIS rules were enhanced in 2015 to encompass Knowledge Intensive Companies (“KICs”). These are companies that meet certain criteria and can benefit from more generous investment limits and can do so while scaling to a larger size.

To qualify as Knowledge Intensive, companies need to have a particular focus on research and development activity. This can be demonstrated by creating intellectual property or by having a percentage of employees or operating costs spent on research, development or innovation.

How it works

Review

Review the Information Memorandum and Risk Factors

Apply

Apply for the Service online (either directly or via a Financial Adviser)

Closing Date

The Service has a final close on 5th April 2027.

Investments

Guinness Ventures make EIS-qualifying investments, targeting investment in the 12 months following the close date.

Certificates

An EIS 3 certificate will be uploaded to the portal for each investment made on your behalf to enable you to claim EIS Income Tax Relief and or Capital Reinvestment Relief.

Updates

You’ll receive valuation statements quarterly and portfolio updates every six months

Exits

We will look to sell the investments, subject to liquidity. EIS exits are exempt from capital gains tax.

Five years

You should be prepared to invest your money for at least five years. Some investee companies may take longer to exit.
